Telereporting in the last century. The village of Barguzin, Buryatia. Barguzinskaya valley and its sights

In continuation of the story about the trip to Baikal,
I will tell you about the excursion to the village of Barguzin, which we visited
on the way to the Barguzinsky datsan.

What is Barguzin?

Many will say that this is a river on Baikal, flowing into the bay of the same name.
There is also such a village on the Barguzin River, which, by the way, had the status of a city until the beginning of the 20th century.
Someone will remember that this is the name of the Baikal wind blowing in a northeasterly direction.
But not everyone will say that this is a short collective name for enough large area adjacent to Baikal. Simply put, being anywhere in the Barguzinsky district of Buryatia, whether it is Ushkany Islands or the Svyatoy Nos peninsula, the famous rock garden on the Ina River or bizarre rock outcrops near the village of Suvo, you can say with confidence: “I am in Barguzin” (with an emphasis on second syllable).

And so we arrived at Barguzin. Leaving the minibus on Krasnoarmeyskaya street,

there was a feeling that we were telereporting in the twentieth century.

And my photos are proof of that.

Goats! There were a lot of them on the streets! They hosted in the squares near the monuments

And walked on the second floor historical building jar

The bank building itself is in a deplorable state.

All historical buildings are concentrated on this street,
protected by the state,
monuments, administrative institutions of the village.

We started walking tour in the village from home children's creativity. From the house where the carved police garden ...

The history of the emergence of the village is harsh, and begins in 1648, when the Barguzinsky prison was founded by the Cossack ataman Ivan Galkin.
After the fire that happened in 1734, almost nothing remained of the prison, it was completely burned down, but a settlement remained near it. And in 1783 the village was transformed into county town"Irkutsk region". In the future, the village changed its name and status several times: when the Irkutsk province was formed in 1798, Barguzin became part of it as a county, and already in 1851 it became part of the Transbaikal region, in 1927 Barguzin again became a village.

The history of the life of many famous people is associated with the history of the village of Barguzin.
who were serving their sentences in this outback.
This is Mikhail Küchelbecker, Wilhelm Küchelbecker,
N. S. Tyutchev, S. P. Soloshchenko, who participated in the uprising on the cruiser Ochakov.

And we visited the monument to the Kuchelbecker brothers, located on the banks of the Barguzin.

In 1834 at the expense of the merchant of the 1st guild Ivan Chernykh, the Transfiguration Cathedral was erected in Barguzin.

The buildings in the village are almost all one-story, mostly made of wood,
among them there are buildings of the 19th century -
for example, the houses of the merchants Cherny, the merchants Sirotins, the merchant Butlitsky.

Which is roughly protected by the state.

There are plenty of monuments on one street.
Here is the house in which the military revolutionary committee was created and met,
who led the establishment of Soviet power in the Barguzinsky district.

Our beloved Russian Post and the building of the local police

We are on the right path, comrades!

And here is the conclusion:

local water supply, water supply, ditches ...

in a word, this ditch stretches along all the streets

and is the place where water is taken

for home gardens...

How do you like this rare gas station?
Does anyone else have these?

Continuation of the tour in the next entry.

  • The small settlement of Ust-Barguzin is located almost on the very shore of Lake Baikal, in the place where the Barguzin River flows into the lake. This defines the main tourist attraction town. True, there are still not so many travelers in Ust-Barguzin: it is located on the “lower”, Buryat side of the lake, while the main flow of tourists, for reasons of transport accessibility, goes to the “upper”, Irkutsk side. Indeed, getting to Ust-Barguzin is not so convenient and not so fast. But it is worth literally crossing the bridge - and you are in the Trans-Baikal National Park. Everything that is located along Baikal to the north and west of Ust-Barguzin is continuous reserved, wild lands.

A stunning destination for tourists near Ust-Barguzin is the Chivyrkuisky Bay, the second largest on Lake Baikal.

    How to get there

It takes about four hours to get to Ust-Barguzin from Ulan-Ude by car. Minibuses and buses run from the Ulan-Ude bus station to Ust-Barguzin, taking into account stops, the journey will take at least five hours. From the district center, Barguzin, one hour drive. IN summer season can be reached by boat from Irkutsk, but the travel time with intermediate stops is almost 12 hours.

    A bit of history

Ust-Barguzin was founded in 1648, but not quite where it is today: when the Irkutsk hydroelectric power station was being built, the village had to be moved to the other side of the Barguzin River. Today in Barguzin you can still see several displaced houses of the old village. The main occupations of local residents to this day are logging, catching and processing fish. Accordingly, in winter, Ust-Barguzin falls into a long hibernation.

    Popular hotels in Ust-Barguzin

    Entertainment and attractions of Ust-Barguzin

Located in Ust-Barguzin main office the visitor center of the nature protection zone "Reserved Podlemorie", which includes a gigantic territory not only of the national park, but also of the Barguzinsky nature reserve and the Frolikha reserve. This center is worth a visit, even if you do not need to look for accommodation, transport or a guide. Works at the center Museum of Local Lore and the seal center (live seals are not kept here, but it’s still interesting to see).

In fact, it is difficult to find any other sights in Ust-Barguzin. The nearest museums nearby are in Barguzin and Maksimikha (where, by the way, the infrastructure is generally better developed). However, tourists are usually not going to stay in Ust-Barguzin for a long time. The most interesting thing you can do here is to get acquainted with the simple and honest Siberian way of life - many of them stay not in a hotel, but in local houses for this purpose. In summer you can spend a day on a good sandy beach Barguzinsky Bay, admiring the views and swimming. And then, of course, go on a hike, to meet the wondrous Baikal nature.

    Neighborhood of Ust-Barguzin

The main travel destinations in Ust-Barguzin are the Barguzin Valley and the Zabaikalsky National Park. The most interesting natural sights of the surroundings are located here.

Approximately 20 km from Ust-Barguzin, in the eastern part of the Barguzin Bay, there is a picturesque Svyatoy Nos peninsula. This wonderful place For hiking. It will take two days to climb the mountain plateau, but on the route among the high coniferous forest you can meet many wild animals, including bears and lynxes.

Approximately 7 km from the Holy Nose are the famous Ushkany Islands, natural monument, which can be accessed only with the permission of the administration national park. This archipelago has four islands. with total area about 10 sq. km, but three of them are very tiny. The largest and most interesting of all is Big. Here you can see the virgin pine-larch forest and picturesque rocks overgrown with spring-blooming Daurian rhododendron. And the local shores are also famous for the rookeries of the Baikal seals. Most of them are on Tonky Island; in total, about 2 thousand of these most interesting animals live on the islands.

Another amazing destination for tourists near Ust-Barguzin is the Chivyrkuisky Bay, the second largest in Baikal. This narrow bay with indented shores washes the Holy Nose from the opposite side from the Barguzinsky Bay. The landscapes here are stunning, in the taiga forests along its banks there are bears and sables, and also rare species of cranes, swans and eagles. The most interesting destinations for tourists on the shores of Chivyrkui are Cape Ongokon, Singing Sands, Kyltygey Islands. Plus, there is a healing hot spring Serpentine.

Dukhovoe Lake is located 20 km from Ust-Barguzin, almost at Maksimikha itself. The name of the lake was due to the fact that periodically bubbles rise from the bottom by themselves - the lake breathes. It is not known whether there is any connection here, but according to rumors, the most luxurious crucian carp are caught on the lake.

Did you like what my family did, big Adventure in Buryatia and you are going to this route, or maybe you have come up with your own route, but your path will also, like ours, run through the Barguzin Valley, then be sure to stop at the following unique places for which the valley is famous.
The Buryats call the Barguzin Valley the "Land of a Thousand Spirits". It is sacred already because Oelun-ujin, the mother of Genghis Khan, was born here. The Barguzinskaya valley begins at the source of the Barguzin and stretches to the northwest for about 250 km, reaching a width of about 35 km.

    1. Ini rock garden
    Just unique phenomenon nature.

We assumed that, most likely, there once flowed deep river, which carried all these cobblestones in its waters. And perhaps a powerful mudflow came down from the mountains, which brought all these stones to the valley. The third option is that there were aliens here. You can come up with your own options, where from here, on 10 thousand square kilometers, this kind of landscape.

Of course, in Buryatia for any inexplicable phenomenon have their own legends. So there is a legend about the formation of the Iniysky rock garden, which, by the way, confirmed one of our assumptions. The rivers InA (accent on the last syllable) and Barguzin argued which of them would run to Baikal faster. The cunning Barguzin ran to Baikal the night before. And InA found out only in the morning that Barguzin had been on his way to the treasured lake for a long time. Fury, she rushed after her, her waters were swift, which scattered huge boulders along the way. The fact that it was InA and not Barguzin who scattered these boulders is explained by the fact that they lie along its banks. Some cobblestones reach more than 4 meters in diameter.

The Buryats also believe, and by the way, we believed them, that huge boulders have magical powers. If you touch the stones with your hands, they take away all the negative energy of a person and give back the positive one. You will have the opportunity to verify this 🙂

Where to see the Ininsky rock garden?
If you drive in the direction of Kurumkan, then the exit near the village of Ulyun to the right to the village of Suvo (here you can see the Suva Castle, about it below), further in the direction of travel after 8 km the village of Bodon (the owner of the Burguzin Valley lives here - Bukhe-Shalun). Further to the village of InA and the river of the same name. A bridge was built across the Ina this summer, so the passage to the other side was carried out on a pontoon bridge, but it is easy to find. A little to the right of the road along the river and here it is - the bridge.

Next summer, I think there will be a new modern bridge. 🙂
If, on the contrary, your path to the Barguzin valley lies from the side of Kurumkan (Alla, Umkheya), then on the section of the Kurumkan-Barguzin highway for about 45-50 km you need to turn left to the village of Bayangol. Drive 35 km on a gravel road and reach an asphalt road (conditionally asphalted, there is asphalt on it, but it is full of holes, potholes, you can say that: “There is asphalt here, but it is not here!”) - go along it for 2 km to Ina. This place is instantly recognizable. We have never seen such a number of boulders among the endless fields. That's right - a rock garden!

    2. The owner of the Barguzin valley - Bukha naughty.

You can visit the owner of the Barguzinskaya valley on the section of the road Bodon - Suvo (the distance between these villages is about 8 km). They say that before asking something from the owner of the Barguzin Valley for yourself, you need to say hello to him, introduce yourself, tell a little about yourself and what you do in life. Then ask permission to be on the sacred land of "thousand spirits" and travel through it. And only then can you say about your intentions and good wishes.

And as always, the appearance of this stone, explains the legend. So, "bukha" in translation from the Buryat - a bull. And the Buryat legend says that once two mighty powerful bulls met on Baikal. And they began to fight for the right to be the rulers of this sacred land. Their battle lasted for many days and nights, but one could not defeat the other. Recognizing their equality, they decided to conclude an agreement. One of the bulls will become the ruler of the Barguzin Valley, and the other will rule (no less majestic and no less sacred). So, one bull turned into a stone Bukha-Shalun and rules the Barguzin valley. And the other turned into a stone Buha-Noyon and is.
Both of them are worshiped by people.

In fact, this is not a castle, but just a picturesque ridge of rocky remains, which from a distance looks like a castle or fortress that once existed here.

Suva Castle is located near the village of Suvo. On the steppe slopes at the foot of the Ikat Range.
There is a version local population that once there was a fortress of the Barguts - the ancient inhabitants who inhabited the Barguzin valley. However, this is only the version of the locals and nothing more.

    4. Salty Alga Lake

You will meet the salt lake right on the way along the Barguzinskaya valley.

What else to see in the area of the Barguzinskaya valley?

Following from Barguzin to Kurumkan on the 360th km of the route P 438 "Ulan-Ude - Kurumkan" do not miss the village of Yarikto. Here is one of the most sacred sacred places Buryatia -.

Returning after visiting the Alla resort to the main road, driving forward another 24 km and turning right near the village of Uljunkhan, then having mastered another 20 km along a gravel road, you will come to, comfortably located in mountain river Barguzin, you can swim in a natural sulfur-hydrogen bath, walk along suspension bridge and enjoy the beauty of the mountain ledges.

Long (more than 200 kilometers) valley between the Barguzin and Ikat ranges. There are practically no roads here, but there is taiga, areas of desert and alpine tundra, so it is increasingly being used for test drives of off-road vehicles. This legendary place and attracts various adventurers. Judge for yourself, here is the legendary burial place of Genghis Khan, who retired to the country of Barngudzhin-Tokum.

Barguzinskaya valley - homeland east wind, which can reach 20 meters per second and, as the fishermen say, the omul drives the net. According to an old Buryat legend, Barguzin is one of the owners of the Omul barrel (the second was Kultuk), for which the entire Baikal omul reached out. Kultuk and Barguzin were friends, they were friends until they both fell in love with the wayward beauty Sarma. And she demanded a dowry for her husband - an omul barrel. The heroes began to fight for the omul barrel, fought for a long time, and she suddenly, as if through her fingers, went into the water. It was Baikal who took her away to stop the quarrels. And Sarma never married anyone. They've been arguing ever since Baikal winds and they can't please Sarma in any way.

    Geography

The Barguzin Valley is located on east coast Baikal. The distance to Ulan-Ude airport is about 300 km, Irkutsk - about 660 km.

    The climate in the valley

The climate is sharply continental, severe. average temperature+ 15°С in summer, -30°С in winter. Winter lasts until May and comes in October. Best time to visit: June - September.

    Attractions

Ininsky rock garden. These boulders grow out of the ground along the banks of the Inu River, 15 km from the village of Suvo (100 km from Barguzin). Some boulders are quite significant - about 4 m in diameter - create an unusual landscape.

Barguzin river. This rapids and full-flowing tributary of Baikal flows through the entire valley. It is interesting for water alloys. River minnow, Siberian char, burbot, grayling, lenok and even taimen live in the river. The water in the upper reaches is so clear that schools of these fish can be observed in them.

Mineral springs. There are about 10 areas of thermal springs in the valley. Urinsky and Bayangolsky springs are known on the left side of Barguzin, on the right - Ulunsky, Baragkhansky, Buksykensky, Kuchigersky, Umekheysky and Allinsky. Most of them are difficult to access due to the lack of asphalt roads. The most remote and interesting is Umhei. It is located on an island in the Barguzin River, almost 100 kilometers from Kurumkan (550 km from Ulan-Ude). Here beats 146 mineral springs that treat 20 different diseases! Water contains fluorine, silicic acid and hydrogen sulfide.

Grave of Genghis Khan. The grave of the great Khan of the Mongols is also being sought here, in the very north of the Mongol Empire, one might say, on the edge of the steppe Oikumene. Warlike Turks - Barguts lived here. They supported the tribal union of Genghis Khan. According to legend, the Bargut warriors made up the khan's personal guard, and the khan's close associates took wives from this tribe. And what were they to do if the mother of the great khan was from Bargudzhin-Tokum? The Barguts soon dissolved in the steppe cauldron. But the legends remained, and from them it follows that the Mongol ruler traveled with his mother to the graves of his ancestors and before his death bequeathed to bury himself in his mother's land. And not only him. It is said that many Mongol commanders and leaders are buried here.

Suva Saxon castle. Graceful rocks at the foot of the Ikat Range, reminiscent of the ruins of a castle. Two two-hundred-meter stone towers, in which swifts and swallows settled, collapsed fortress walls. According to legend, the rock towers were built by the Barguts. Evenki shamans settled Barguzin himself in the castle - the owner of the destructive east wind. Buryats - lords of Suvo Tumurshi-noyon and his wife Tudugish-khatan. From the top of the rock castle, you can see the entire Barguzin valley. Suva Castle is located near the village of Suvo (85 km on the road from the village of Barguzin).

Buhe-Shulun (Ox-stone). This small boulder is considered one of the shrines of the Barguzin Valley. locals come here to call the weather. Moreover, for a request, you first need to introduce yourself, tell about yourself, your family, children, cattle, and then move on to a prayer. Such a bull is well-bred and requires special treatment! The stone is located near the village of Suvo.

Dugan Yanzhimy. This iconic phenomenon of the XXI century has become a serious place of pilgrimage. In 2005, on a mountain near the village of Yarigta, the face of the goddess Yanzhima appeared - the patroness of the arts, sciences, crafts, wisdom, prosperity and the birth of children. According to legend, Yanzhima is a local resident, a cheerful girl who made people happy with her singing and dancing. And then she ascended to heaven and became a heavenly princess. Yanzhima is the local name of the Indian goddess Saraswati, who lived on earth in the form of a bright river and ascended to heaven until people gained wisdom.

The trees on the way to the face of the goddess are hung with scarves with inscribed mantras. The datsan and the stone of Yanzhima is located in the vicinity of the village of Yarigto, 90 kilometers from the village of Barguzina (531 km from Ulan-Ude).

Ulzykha. The upper reaches of the Ulzykha River, flowing down from the Barguzinsky Range, are popular with climbers, mountain tourists and fans of off-piste skiing. skiing and snowboarding. In summer there are beautiful alpine meadows, mountain lakes and easy ascents to two-kilometer peaks. From October to June, freeriders ride Ulzykha. In winter, a lot of snow falls here, inflates large snow cornices. The best place for skiing on the Ulzykha, the lobbies of the Star Circus are considered. Sunset to base camp from the village of Yarikta (90 kilometers from the village of Barguzin, 531 from Ulan-Ude). It is a 2-hour walk to the base camp along the hiking trail.

Baraghan-Uula. sacred mountain Buddhists and shamanists. Buddhists believe that this snow-capped peak(2514 m.) guards the Buddhist world from the north. It is believed that a person who has climbed this mountain establishes a connection with the sky for a year, and the righteous will see a huge image of Buddha on the rocks. Shamanists settled here one of the heavenly patrons - Khazhar Sagaan noyons. On a high mountain plateau (about 2,000 meters) there is a large stone wallpaper, in which sabers, shields and spearheads were previously seen. Arrowheads can still be found in the stones. They say that this is a trace of the great pacification of the local peoples: 400 years ago they came to Holy place and "buried the hatchet of war." True, rifle barrels were also found on the plateau - perhaps they put up here a century ago. Shamanic and Buddhist rites are held here constantly. So, in order to climb Barkhan-Uulu, it is recommended not only to register with the rescuers, but also to obtain the "permission" of the lama of the Kurumkan datsan. Climbing the plateau takes 4-6 hours from the village of Baragkhan.

Kurumkan datsan. Small Buddhist temple complex 3 kilometers from the village of Kurumkan, on the territory of which there is a meditation center for sutra and tantra.

Sacred Lakes Amut and Balan-Tamur. Cold mountain lakes in the heart northern taiga Dzherginsky Reserve. The Barguzin Evenks consider them sacred. Since ancient times, the elders of the clans come here in the spring and pray to the spirits for the harvest and health and prosperity. According to legend, the shaman Balan-Tamur lived here. He looked imposing and intimidating. They say, for example, that the old man's hair was so long that it touched the ground. In dry years, Evenks came to him with gifts and prayed for rain. The old man did not refuse anyone, he went down to the water and dipped his hair into the lake - and immediately it began to rain. In the place of his house, there is a chum made of young larch trunks, on the central column of the chum, a prayer is written in a spiral to the spirit of the guardian of the lake valley - a black water crow asking for the fertility and health of all living things in the Barguzin Valley. A visit to the lakes will take at least 3 days horseback riding from Kurumkan.

Ice on Lake Churikto. The lake in the Dzherginsky zavopednik is interesting because even in summer the ice does not melt on it. During the winter, five-meter ice forms on the warm channel between the lakes. These heaps of ice melt only in August. In the swampy forests, you can see a herd of reindeer. A visit to the lake will take at least 3 days of horseback riding from Kurumkan.

The village of Ust-Barguzin, as you might guess from the name, is located at the mouth of the Barguzin River. The river flows into Baikal, the village stands on its left bank. The Great Lake-Sea is not visible from the windows, but it is within easy reach to the shore - about five minutes by car. When the Buryat side of Lake Baikal becomes as popular as the Irkutsk side, Ust-Barguzin will be overcrowded - by definition, it is doomed to a massive influx of tourists. But first things first.

Ust-Barguzin — south gate in the Reserve Podlemorye. fabulous name belongs to a huge nature protection zone: from the Svyatoy Nos peninsula to Lake Frolikha. In 2011, the Podlemorie united the Zabaikalsky National Park, the Barguzinsky Reserve and the Frolikhinsky Reserve into a common structure. The directorate of the nature protection zone is located just in Ust-Barguzin.

In fact, Ust-Barguzin - last stronghold civilization before protected area, which stretches along the Baikal coast for three hundred kilometers, to Nizhneangarsk itself. The road passing through the village goes around the Barguzin Range from the east and gets lost in the Barguzin valley, so those who head to the north of the Baikal coast are forced to change in Ust-Barguzin at water transport. The exception is tourists who go to Nizhneangarsk along the shore on foot, along an animal trail, or travelers who come to Baikal in winter, when the entire lake turns into an ice road.

Transbaikal national park- the most visited of the three protected areas of the Podlemorye Reserve. Svyatoy Nos, Ushkany Islands, Chivyrkuisky Bay, Snake Bay with hot thermal springs and other natural attractions, known far beyond the borders of Buryatia, are located just on the territory of the park. And, unlike the objects of the Barguzinsky Reserve and the Frolikhinsky Reserve, it is not difficult to get to them - through Ust-Barguzin, of course. central Street The village leads to the river and rests on the river. At the beginning of November 2013, the bridge over it was put into operation, so the difficulties with ferry crossing no more. After the bridge, at the fork, turn left to the Chivyrkui Isthmus - here begins the Trans-Baikal Park. By car, you can drive another fifty kilometers - to the village of Monakhovo on the Svyatoy Nos peninsula, near the Chivyrkuisky Bay.

Ust-Barguzin opens the way not only to Podlemorie. Some tourists go from here on a journey through the picturesque and sparsely populated Barguzinskaya valley. Many simply stop in the village, content with short forays into the national park. Of course, you can’t see even a tenth of the Transbaikal beauties, but all the benefits of civilization are at hand: plumbing, central heating, shops, cafes, the Internet, mobile connection. A fifteen-minute walk is the shore of the incredibly beautiful Barguzinsky Bay. Here and beautiful view to the Holy Nose, and a long snow-white beach, and Baikal water, which warms up to 22 degrees in summer, and in it - omul, grayling, whitefish. Even Irkutsk residents come here to relax, although they have “their own” Baikal at their side. In Ust-Barguzin, civilization and nature are extremely successfully combined: there is everything you need for your usual life, plus classic Baikal views.

In general, someday Ust-Barguzin will surely become a Trans-Baikal tourist mecca, but for now it is a calm, urban-type settlement not spoiled by big money. Workers' village: Of the 8,000 residents, most work in sawmills and fish processing plants. In the Soviet years, there were two industrial giants here: a huge fish factory that sold canned food throughout the Union, and a timber industry enterprise that developed the endless surrounding forests. Now there is neither one nor the other, but people are still at work: instead of a timber industry enterprise in Ust-Barguzin, there are more than a hundred private sawmills, instead of a giant factory, there are a couple of dozen small fish enterprises (officially there are seven of them). Salaries, however, are not Soviet. And the capacities are not the same: canned food from a part, with which the Ust-Barguzinsky RKZ once provided the whole country, and now they are sold in village stores, they are only brought from Veliky Novgorod.

Most year, except for early spring and summer, Ust-Barguzin seems to be hibernating. Cafes are empty, on the wide streets there are only fluffy Siberian mongrels, who have no one to bark at. If it were not for the proximity to Baikal, everything would be like in other villages of Buryatia: space, wooden buildings, lack of bright colors and rich vegetation. Some houses, however, are decorated with wonderful carvings. Around - taiga, overhead - almost always a clear starry sky. But at the edge of vision or consciousness, sometimes invisibly and inaudibly, the great Baikal is always present.

    Important

In early November 2013, the construction of a bridge over the Barguzin River was completed, so there are no difficulties in crossing to the other side of the river.

    Local Features

Getting to Ust-Barguzin is easy. From Ulan-Ude to the village about 300 kilometers. A few years ago, the road between the Buryat capital and Ust-Barguzin was completely unpaved, and the journey took about nine hours. Now most of the road has been repaired and paved, so that you can keep within four hours. Minibuses run regularly from the Ulan-Ude bus station to Ust-Barguzin. A charming detail: approximately in the middle of the way, the minibus makes a stop, and passengers and the driver go together to have lunch.

There are no problems with housing for tourists in the village: there are camp sites, private hotels, guest houses. Local residents take tourists to wait. Foreigners like to settle in private owners: it is interesting to see how ordinary Siberian families live. The cost of living, as a rule, includes meals: local food according to traditional recipes. “Local food”, mind you, is fish.

Housing costs from 600 rubles per person per day. Good living conditions start from 1200 rubles per person. If for some reason there are difficulties with accommodation or you want more comfort, go to the village of Maksimikha. It is located 30 kilometers from Ust-Barguzin towards Ulan-Ude, right on the shore of Lake Baikal. Maximikha is considered resort village since Soviet times, when camp sites, sanatoriums of various departments, and children's camps were built here. There are many hotels in Maksimikha, from the most modest to luxurious.

In Ust-Barguzin there is a clinic and a hospital, but in case of illness or injury, a tourist will most likely have to go to a hospital in Ulan-Ude or to the regional center - the village of Barguzin.

In Ust-Barguzin there is a church - a wooden one-aisled church of the Nativity of John the Baptist, built in the late 1990s. Services in the temple are held 2-4 times a month, since the rector lives in the regional center.

    Story

Initially, Ust-Barguzin stood on the right bank of the Barguzin. It is believed that it was founded in the 17th century (an ominous date is indicated - 1666) by a Cossack detachment led by Gavrila Lovtsov. Gavrila Lovtsov was one of the Russian pioneers in Buryatia. It was he, by the way, who founded the Verkhneudinsky prison - now it is the city of Ulan-Ude.

Ust-Barguzin was transferred to the left bank in 1952, before the launch Irkutsk HPP. It was expected that Baikal would rise so much that the village would go under water. Old Ust-Barguzin was slightly flooded, but they did not move a second time. Then, in 1952, the village was much smaller: practically one street - Lenin. Around it, Ust-Barguzin grew further and further. Today it is the main street.

Ust-Barguzin received the status of an urban-type settlement even before the move, in 1938. The population grew steadily thanks to the fish factory and timber industry, where residents of the surrounding villages came to work.
