Hotel "Dora 3 *" - a small mansion, painted with cheerful yellow paint with lace balconies, has only a few rooms, a relaxation room, a sauna and a breakfast room, the Internet is free at any time. On the roof of the hotel you can sunbathe, there are sunbeds, sun loungers and umbrellas.
The hotel itself is modest, without architectural and interior frills, but somehow very cozy and cute. The owner is a married couple who welcomes guests and works at the reception. By the way, our appearance at the hotel was interesting: we entered, there was no one, there was no one at the reception either, there was complete silence in the corridor. I notice an old telephone on the counter, next to it is an ad. We don’t know what is written, because we don’t read German, only the large number 35 is understandable. Literally a minute later, a pretty Frau appears, who introduced herself as Maria, this was the hostess of the hotel, only later we met her husband and son. Amazing people - attentive, friendly, sympathetic. We did not often turn to them with requests, but when such a need arose, we always received help or clarification.

Our double room was on the second floor. It included everything you need for a normal life for 10 days: a comfortable bed with soft pillows, an airy blanket; bedside tables with drawers, an alarm clock, a table with chairs, a small desk, a TV (no Russian programs), a wardrobe with a lot of hangers, several lamps. The walls are decorated with pictures of local beauties. The bathroom was a little disappointing - although everything worked and there were plenty of towels, the tiles still had some kind of “worn” look, or just the drawing created such an impression, at least in last years we have come across more sophisticated bathrooms. Although ... the sink was always clean, the bathroom too, the water had a stunning blue color ... If I really find fault, I note that shampoo and soap were not reported to us after the first day, towels were not changed. Nothing, we got our bearings - there was a locker next to the room in the corridor, in which I found soap, shampoo, and clean towels; everything, the issue was resolved. Yes, there was another moment when I "fought for my rights" - the declared bathrobes and slippers were not in the room. Where? The husband asked, why do you need them? What do you mean why? Maybe I chose the hotel only because of the presence of a bathrobe and slippers!!! I went to Maria, she replied that no one asked, but we are with you, dear members of the forum, experienced people: it’s supposed to - give it. I got everything I needed, actively used it (the bathrobe was very useful in terms), slippers, as always, went with me to Yaroslavl.
A special advantage of the room is a balcony. How we liked it! In the morning they went out there to breathe in the fresh mountain air, sunbathed during the day, and in the evening they sat in armchairs with bottles of champagne. At night, the balcony door was left open - silence, peace, wonderful air, smells of flowers contributed to healthy sleep. (I will repeat about peace and quiet, in my opinion, these two factors, like others, made our vacation truly “healthy”). There is no minibar in the room, but there is one in the hallway. You take what you want, write down the room number - everything is on trust; and, since we often returned to the hotel late, without having time to run into the supermarket, the contents of the mini-bar really helped us out.

Breakfast, let's say, is normal: muesli of all kinds, juices, yoghurts, sausage and cheese cuts, pates, fruit salad, butter - honey - jams, delicious own jams, vegetables, eggs (only hard boiled), tea, coffee, buns. Not luxurious, but if you imagine that at home I have breakfast only with a cup of tea and a sandwich, I had enough, my husband did not complain either.
The main contingent of the hotel, and the resort as a whole, are Germans 75-95 years old. What a great conversation we had with them! They greeted us warmly, exchanged phrases in Russian-English-German, lived together. And this is another plus of our holiday - surprisingly polite relations between people, literally on the second day we began to greet everyone on the streets, in response - greetings and smiles.

Bad Reichenhall belongs to the cohort of small fairy-tale towns in Bavaria. It originated near the ancient salt mines and its whole history was directly connected with the extraction of salt, it is no coincidence that the name comes from the Celtic “hall” - “rich in salt”. What is the first thing that catches your eye? An abundance of people of a very, very respectable age. Married couples are decorously walking around the town: neatly dressed old men in well-ironed trousers, well-combed ladies in jewelry, mostly in pearls (I will not hide, I had seen enough - I could not resist and also bought earrings). Wealthy pensioners come here to improve their health in clinics, and some stay forever in nursing homes. And what do these houses look like - cozy, well-groomed, with indispensable flower vases around. Yes, by no means heartless relatives send old people here, they themselves voluntarily settle. There are a lot of disabled people, but how well they behave, how decently they behave! I'm not talking about electric wheelchairs. Such a Frau rides in a stroller, presses buttons, in front of her is a drawer for her purse, as if she herself had just come from a beauty salon ... There are few young people on the streets, they study or work, and only appear in the park in the evenings. We have an interesting history. In the evening on main street we return home, my husband and friend went ahead, and I took pictures and lagged behind them. It is quiet around, and suddenly a bursting girlish laughter and a conversation with very familiar intonations are heard. It turns out that two girls and two guys approached them with an offer to show the city and spend time together. Their conversation was lively, playful, but then, quite inopportunely, I appeared from around the corner. Everything was “blamed” on me - they say, my wife is going, it’s time to go to the hotel, and the guys began to “rub” me about the dog that was lost, and now they are looking for it, well, well. They don’t know that I worked for 30 years at a theater university, you can’t beat me, but mine, mine, how happy they were - such attention, and what - against the background of the resting contingent there, they are young people.

Arriving in Bad Reichenhall, I immediately said to myself: the main thing for us is health, a calm and measured pensioner's rest.
Every morning we leisurely went for a walk in the park - "Royal Kurgarten" (free admission). The main attraction of the park is Gradierwerke (open inhalation) - a grandiose structure 160 meters long and 12 meters high made of hawthorn and blackthorn branches, through which salt water flows. At the same time, part of the salt settles on the branches, part is sprayed into the air. People walk, inhaling the healing air. Doctors say that a walk in the park near Gradierwerke is equivalent to visiting the sea in terms of its healing properties, the recommended walking time is 30 minutes. When I returned home, I didn’t immediately realize what was constantly irritating me? Yes, I just lost the habit of noise, cigarette smoke, loud music.

In general, there are 55 fountains in the city and a lot of drinking pump rooms with mineral water, so the city is called "Brunnenstadt (city of springs). The Kaiser Karl Fountain is turned on from 8.00 to 21.00; warm water flows from one faucet, cold water from the other. Disposable cups are sold in a vending machine (0 10 euros) We tried the water, it wasn't quite disgusting, but we didn't dare to drink.

Breathing in the healing air in the park, we walked along the streets of the town. the main street Bad Reichenhall - Poststrasse is a 3 km pedestrian area with boutiques, shops, pubs, restaurants and cafes. In the evenings, all active life flows onto Weisteiner Boulevard, leading to the city Casino.

One of the main attractions of the town is Alte Saline - an old saltworks museum. Its adits and mines are located under the medieval fortress Gruttenstein (Burg Gruttenstein) in historical center cities. The saltworks is located in a building built in 1834. I draw your attention to the need to dress warmly and follow the guide exactly - you can get lost in the tunnels, it's damp, slippery under your feet, it's dripping from the stream, it's cold. The tour is interesting, and most importantly, everything works in the mines, the wheels are spinning, the pumps are pumping ... Bad Reichenhall was badly damaged during the war, April 25, 1945 is considered a black day in its history, when many buildings were destroyed and people died. Traces of that fateful day have been preserved on one of the walls of the saline, a memorial plate has been installed, lamps are burning, and in the square in front of the saline there is a monument to the residents of the city who died during the first and second world wars. The salt cave of Alte Saline is used today for the treatment of serious broncho-pulmonary diseases. Patients visit several times a week salt adit in order to inhale dust-free and allergen-free air in conditions of high humidity.
In the shop at the saltworks you can buy medicines. We bought a lot of things - a nasal spray, a sore throat spray, tablets like Strepsils. There are also Josef Mack sweets with mountain pine oil. They are of two types: with salt and without.

Opposite the Alte Saline is the old and new town hall and market square. The Old Town Hall was founded in 1849, in 1924 the walls were painted with scenes dedicated to the history of the city. Now, on holidays and every Saturday, festivities are organized on the market square with roast sausages, potatoes, the sale of all sorts of goodies and interesting things.

There are several churches and a cathedral in the town. Many of them trace their history back to the 12th century.

Since we lived in Bad Reichenhall for a long time, we had the opportunity to take a leisurely walk around the town, and we have our favorite corners. First of all - Old city. It contains a small square of St. Florian, surrounded by old houses. For lovers of medieval nooks and crannies, this place is simply a delight: I wandered around here for hours, looking at gardens, courtyards, and windows. In the center of the square is a fountain with a statue of St. Florian, who, according to legend, protected Bad Reichenhall from fire.
There is a residential area above the city, it consists of beautiful and well-maintained villas, the signs of the owners often come across the inscription "doctor of medicine" - of course, we are in a resort.

Above the old town rises the Gruttenstein fortress, built in 1219 by Ludwig I Duke of Bavaria to defend the city and protect salt springs. From the 13th century until 1736 it served as the residence of the burggrave. Then, for 100 years, barracks were located in the fortress, after that - a shelter for the poor, and, finally, salt mine workers were settled here. As a result of construction work on restructuring and expansion, it acquired the resemblance to a castle. You can get to the fortress along the path that starts behind the old saltworks. The view of the city from here is extraordinary - such a beauty! You can’t enter the fortress itself, the gates are locked, but we looked into the courtyard, it is well-groomed, like the area around. The fortress attracts to itself, I tried to approach its walls from the side where there is no road, but only thickets of bushes. There are several small narrow windows on the wall, I looked into one - complete desolation; crawling up to another, I heard the clinking of dishes, jerky German speech, I felt somehow uneasy, I remembered the fisherman's "Bronze Bird" and the adventures of the guys. But, those were the pioneers, and I, a lady of respectable age, something that carried me here - I was standing in some thickets, near the old stone masonry, it smelled of dampness, there was no one around, only mysterious sounds. But these are places that are too closely connected with the history of fascism and its aftermath, and what if they are still hiding behind these walls, protecting the gold reserves of the Reich? And the camera doesn't work! I just filmed, everything was in order, but at the walls - nothing! Mystic! (By the way, everything was repeated in Hitler's bunker.) So, that's enough adventures, we need to go out into the light, I crawled out of these thorns, looked into last time on the walls, how interesting, but also creepy.

"Rupertus Therme"

But most of the time we spent there, where, in fact, everyone who arrived in Bad Reichenhall aspires - the modern health complex "Rupertus Therme". Wonderful place!

The complex offers three areas of recovery:
"be active and healthy" (hot spring pools, health and fitness center),
"relax and pamper yourself" (saunas, beauty and vitality salon),
"therapy" (massages, manual therapy, medical wellness programs).

To visit the term, a ticket is bought for a certain time. At the checkout you can rent a bathrobe (5 euros) and a towel (3 euros) or buy it.

A visit to the term costs: 21 euros - 2 hours; 18 euros - 4 hours; 14 euros - 4 hours with a discount on the Kurkarta. There is a preferential time: early in the morning and in the evening from 18.00 to 22.00, tickets at a discount. We bought tickets at our hotel, they cost 12.50 euros for 4 hours and, most importantly, for any time during the day. This is an essential moment, we were free to plan our time: good weather - we go somewhere, rain - we go to the baths or vice versa: bad weather- shopping, the sun - sunbathing in the terms. When visiting, a stamp is placed in the Kurkarta; they say that if there are ten visits, the eleventh is free. I don’t know for sure, we were in the terms 5 times. There are also combined tickets. For example, Rupertus thermae + Königssee - this ticket will be cheaper than two different tickets to the pool and to the boat, and it is not at all necessary to combine visits on one day - the combi ticket is valid for a year. There are several such combi-tickets, I will talk about them later.

When buying a ticket, a bracelet with a chip is issued, which marks the time of entry and exit; expenses are also entered on it, for example, in a cafe, in a solarium, so that cash can be left in the locker room. In general, this is a very interesting system: you get a bracelet, you go to the turnstile, you put the bracelet on, the time is fixed, you go to change clothes. You enter a free booth (there is a white stripe below, if the red one is occupied), you close yourself with a latch that is next to the bench, you change clothes, you go out the opposite door, you find a free locker, you put things. You close the door, put a bracelet on the latch, the latch lights up, you need to turn it 90 degrees. Everything, the locker is closed. The locker has a number. If you suddenly forget it from happiness and bliss, it doesn’t matter: there is a device hanging at the entrance to the showers from the side of the locker room, attach a bracelet to it and everything will be in order. It opens simply - you put the bracelet on the lock, it lights up, click - and the locker is open.

There are several pools in the thermal area. The water in them is not simple, but still the same magical AlpenSole. It comes straight from the source from a depth of 450 m through a pipeline, with a temperature of 16 degrees and a salt content of 26.5%. Here it is diluted to the desired consistency from 2 to 12%, heated to different temperatures (there are 33, 36, 40 gr, and nearby for contrast - 18 gr, 1 and 2 floors). In the pools, jacuzzis, waterfalls, various hydromassages are periodically launched, there is a circle of strong current, in which you completely surrender "at the mercy of the waves."
There is also a swimming pool (2%) in the open air with various "attractions", where we spent all the time.
In the basement - Solegrotte. The sign on the door says that there is a zone of peace and quiet. Soft twilight, relaxing music, barely swaying limbs and relaxed bodies are visible in the greenish light. Nearby is a room for inhalations - a wall along which salt water flows, a heated stone bench and .... silence.
The aroma steam room is attractive, of course, it is difficult to sit there even for a few minutes, but people sit and breathe.
If desired, you can visit the sauna, solarium, fitness center, beauty parlor. That's where I rushed, but it turns out there was a long queue of old women to the beautician and I had to sign up in advance, but that didn’t suit me, because it’s not known where we want to rush tomorrow or the day after tomorrow and when we can go to the thermae.
There are sun loungers on the street, there are umbrellas, you can sunbathe. There are sun loungers in the room, but it's stuffy. There is a restaurant in the baths, we dined there several times - you choose food, the cost is entered on the chip of the bracelet; you can order juices, ice cream, cocktails; Very tasty potato soup. But the portions are terrible, after the first dinner they ordered one dish for two, and the salad - so generally for three, they barely ate.
A few words about spending time in the terms. We always went to open pool, swam or stood at the sides and waited for various massagers to be released. We substituted the neck (scattered shower, great for cervical osteochondrosis), legs, heels, various problem areas. The audience in the pools was the same as in the streets of the city - well-bred old men. We have always swum peacefully; smiling politely; on the circle, “pushing” each other, they laughed merrily, enjoying their rest and health. And then one day ... we are blissful with the old people in a circle, suddenly the water foamed, boiled, and something white and huge emerged from the water, scattered everyone and disappeared again. Everyone is slightly confused. Suddenly, this “something” appears again from the water and yells: “Dad, let's race!!!” Hooray, relatives breathed, “ours” appeared: mom, dad and two teenage daughters. I am against the condemnation of our tourists abroad, I myself am Russian, but it was still that family, as a result of their rest, all the rest did not dare to return to their favorite circle until the end of the day.

I really liked the shops of Bad Reichenhall. I don't like outlets or stores like Europark, which we found in Salzburg, I prefer small ones with unbroken goods, where you can buy a really original little thing. There are such. Many shops with excellent men's shoes; beautiful women's shoes mostly with high heels. The magnificent M& store with perfumes and cosmetics - that's where we "divorced". All my favorite fragrances are sold at a huge discount, how could you not buy?! And on the top floor of the store is the underwear department. There is almost no one in the hall, there are armchairs (for accompanying men), fitting rooms with circular mirrors, there is such chic linen. And what a pleasure it is to slowly try on all these airy rags!
In the city, many shops sell souvenirs, my collection of wall plates has replenished, now there are 152 of them. We also found a shop where they sell antique things, bought watches in our new corridor. There are a lot of pharmacies and shops offering products based on salt and pine extract: soaps, creams, masks, tonics, gels, scrubs, etc. All these stores are concentrated in the city center, on Poststrasse and Ludwigstrasse. On Anton-Winkler-Strasse, there is the Josef Mack Co store, which has been operating since 1856. Here you can buy the best herbs, collections and preparations from herbs collected in the Bavarian Alps. This was our first trip where we had to buy an extra suitcase for shopping.

I swore that after last year's gluttony in Germany I would be self-possessed and prudent in food. Haha! There is such an amazing cuisine that all my vows were forgotten. Bad Reichenhall has a large selection of restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs. They are at every turn.
We visited many of them, I can recommend the Brauerei-Gasthof-Hotel B& on Waaggasse 1-2, not far from Town Hall Square- Bavarian pub at the local brewery. Here, since 1633, different types of beer have been brewed according to the old Bavarian recipe. Pork knuckle, assorted sausages, baby pig meat cooked in the oven with a crispy crust, trout from local reservoirs. Been to this restaurant twice and both times enjoyed the food and the service. A lot, tasty, inexpensive, within 25 euros for two.
Aigidy Keller is the oldest restaurant in Bad Reichenhall. This restaurant is historical, in a knightly style. In the period from the end of the 18th - beginning of the 19th century it was called the "Russian Court" and was visited by merchants and merchants from Russia. The restaurant has its own wine cellar. It is located in the very center of the city in a cozy courtyard of one of the houses. This is the only restaurant that has a menu in Russian, but we did not eat there, because we did not like this menu, and the prices there are so high. A similar dish in a nearby restaurant costs three times cheaper.
It should be noted that you can’t just get into a restaurant in the evening, tables in all restaurants are occupied by locals or vacationers, you need to book a table in the afternoon. The reservation looks funny - we come to the hall, we see tables with signs, on one there is an inscription - Eugene, which means ours.
In the cafe Reber you can order tea, coffee, hot chocolate with cakes or the famous Reber marzipan Mozart sweets.
