What is the difference between the resorts of the Costa Dorada and the Costa Brava?

The Catalan region includes three resort areas:

  • in the north - ;
  • in the center - Costa-Barcelona;
  • in the south - Costa Dorada.

Geographically, the northern region of Catalonia is slightly cooler than the southern one. Here, the coastal strip is strewn with rocks and secluded bays, because of the cold current, the sea warms up longer. There are resorts that are open to the wind. Unlike the Costa Dorada with shallow waters, a gentle slope and fine sand, the Costa Brava stands out for its coastal depths and pebble-sand beaches. There are places where the depth begins right at the shore.

But the Costa Brava overshadows its southern competitor with magnificent landscapes of a wild and rocky coast, where rocks and cliffs covered with pines break off directly into the sea. And on the tops of the rocks, towers and ancient ruins flaunt, which add a colorful touch to the beauties of nature. Rest in this region is most often chosen by those who love nature and beautiful views.

Good day to all tourists) Today I want to offer you a story - a report compiled by me for my friends who were in deep thought about where to relax with a child. I tried to be objective in assessing Salou, because I like this city more than any other on the Costa Dorada with its convenient developed infrastructure and magnificent beaches.

The beginning of the history of Salou dates back to 1229, when the king of Aragon, Jaime I, having appreciated the natural advantages of the city and its optimal geographical conditions, decided to unite his entire fleet here, set off from here to conquer the island of Mallorca. Now Salou bears a clear imprint of the modernist style that became very popular throughout Catalonia at the beginning of the 20th century.

One of the warmest months in Salou (translated from Spanish as Sunny)) is August, but in July the sea is also warm enough, the temperature of water and air at the end of the month is maximum, and the heat is not particularly felt due to humidity.

The city is green with vegetation typical of the region: palm trees, pines, maples, mimosas, planted with flower beds with roses, cacti, grassy lawns, birds sing, especially loudly in the morning), very clean and comfortable and constantly ennobled. Respect local authorities for this, you can see where the taxes go), everything is for the people. wifi all along the coast - free from the City Administration www.salou.cat

The beaches in Salou are located along its entire line, there are 7 of them. In the center - the largest and, of course, the most crowded with tourists, but at a distance of 10-15 minutes are all the others, there are small ones - in the coves, in which there are up to 10-20 people vacationing Total.

The beach is sandy, the bottom itself is not deep at a distance of several meters from the shore, which is good for children; cleaned every day, checked by special radars for the presence of foreign dangerous objects; clean clear water: you can see how the fish swim, there are no jellyfish, only crabs.

Medics and rescuers, police are always on duty on the shore. Is in without fail showers, changing rooms, toilets, everything is very decent. Drinking water in separate sources here. Sun loungers, umbrellas and all beach accessories are in abundance.

On the coast there are swings and playgrounds, nicely designed, which are located on sandy areas among green lawns. There are a lot of them all over Salou, by the way, there is one near the railway station - there are all sorts of very cool "hangs, jump ropes, climbing frames." There will be somewhere to spend time with the children.

There are more and more Russian tourists every year, what will happen this season - it’s hard to say, the number of visas open for Russians is increasing, and last season it was enough to ask yourself the question “Where am I?)”, Salou is becoming more and more a popular place for compatriots, BUT when compared with Sochi and other resort places in Russia, you practically go over your head. No, this is not the case, due to the large territory of the beaches, everyone is dispersed. Yes, and in Spain itself there are many Costases) and Costa Bravo, and Costa Blanco, etc. ...

With children - almost all families. Especially the Spanish, they also like to relax here and, according to their mentality, based on the cult of the family and simply insane love for their children, do not part with their children for a second, and mostly dads mess with the kids.

Crowds of people - only gather for holidays or at night disco.

Unfortunately, there are no large shopping centers in the city, only Mango and a couple of Spanish companies, they are all located in the center and along Jaime Avenue or Barcelona Street.

Everyone does shopping in Reus - a town nearby (20 minutes by bus), in which the main streets are solid brands, it is very convenient since all the shops are located within a radius of several meters. It also makes sense to see Reus as a city-museum and the birthplace of the great Gaudi, many sights are associated with this name: the house where he was born, the church where the sacrament of baptism took place and the museum - the center of Gaudi, in which, by the way, you can get a free taxi, in order not to waste time at the airport (see my photo album and a story about this town).

Shopping can also be done in Tarragona - 30 minutes by bus or 15 minutes by train - a city that is worth seeing, the seaport, the ruins of the Roman amphitheater are the property of UNESCO, the Rambla. There are three large shopping centers, one of them is El Cort Inglés (tax free), like in Barcelona.

And by the way - 5-7 minutes from Salou - Cambrils is located, a fishing town that is famous for its fresh fish dishes in restaurants.

My advice is to eat only in those where the Spaniards work, only they know how to cook a real national food how to. The rest also learned well, but I always feel the difference.

I want to note that food prices, for example, in Mercadona (one of the supermarkets) are much cheaper than in Barcelona. An abundance of fruits, vegetables, wine, drinks, fresh meat and seafood. There is home delivery (4 euros regardless of the purchase amount). It is very beneficial to eat and cook by yourself.

"Where to go":

– in the evening, sit in wonderful restaurants on the seashore (expensive La Galeta, Villa Alexander, the latter still hosts a flamenco show, the price for dinner for one person is about 100 euros. and more affordable Bamboo, La Sal ... .set)) and taste amazing Mediterranean cuisine; just eat ice cream, drink sangria (there are Farggi, and Macdohalds, etc., all fast foods except Starbucks)

- to discos - they are very famous here, for example, Pacha, in Moscow it is also there,

– ride a pleasure boat or rent a yacht,

- go fishing - they even organize a catch),

- go to a fitness center (you can buy a subscription for a month or a single one) open until 10 pm, or a small gym right there on the coast, sounding from coastal cafes,

- listen to live music, mostly saxophone ...,

- see singing fountains laser show, the same Carlas Bugas, who designed the famous magic in Barcelona on Mount Montjuic,

For children, the fountain will be interesting - a labyrinth in which all the children are splashing, it causes indescribable delight, as it is a spiral of fountains on the plane, which turns on unpredictably and you have to have time to slip dry to the center ... there are a few more with riddles.

– walk along the beautiful well-groomed Jaime Avenue and the embankment,

— watch the most beautiful sunset on the rotunda,

- run / walk, like many along the coast for sporting purposes,

– visit a recreation park and a dolphinarium,

- wander around the souvenir shops.

"Excursions":

there is a local Travel Company Plana www.busplana.es, she organizes trips and excursions from Salou with guides at ridiculous prices. This is Mount Montserrat (a must if you haven't been yet), Sitges, Girona with the Dalli Museum and Andorra (for shopping). This year there are still new excursions to Valencia and several other cities in Spain, tours to Barcelona are also offered - Camp Nou, Spanish Village, etc.

I also liked the Knights' Tournament, Flamenco, I didn't attend bullfighting in principle, and since September 2011 it has been banned.

I also advise you to go with this company for more serious purchases in La Roca Village - a suburb of Barcelona - a stock of brands, an outlet. Expensive brands with up to 70% discount. There, tax free is issued on the spot and there is even a service for sending purchases of any volume to anywhere in the world, which is undoubtedly convenient.

And I just definitely advise you to go to the famous Torres winery.

All trips are basically designed for the whole day. Prices are much more affordable than in other travel agencies, and the quality of services offered is high. Why overpay?)

I advise everyone to have a family vacation and a mandatory visit to PortAventura www.portaventura.es

- 4 minutes by train, 20 minutes by a fun little train that travels around Salou or by bus.

This is a famous amusement park, like Disneyland, there is also an aqua park. Very very cool. I myself go there several times a year. Get ready to spend it fabulous place at least three days. There are even hotels in the park ****

By the way, from Salou you can get to France directly by train to Montpellier.

In general, quite a lot of activities are prepared for tourists here. Up to free lessons of oriental dance and aerobics in the mornings on the shore and various performances during the day ... Quite a lot of people participate

Forgot about golf! If you are into Salou, there are excellent golf courses, there are only 69 of them in Catalonia!

You can rent a car. Bicycles can also be rented at some hotels.

And I also suggest that you combine business with pleasure - visit local real estate agencies. There are enough of them in Salou too. Very good and affordable housing on the market right now: from luxury villas to apartments. You can immediately inspect and ask the price on the spot.

Yes, Plana buses run from Barcelona Airport (2 hours, cost 15 euros one way and 25 euros round trip), passing almost all hotels, to the center of Salou, where the bus station is located (flights every half hour). In addition to comfortable buses, of course, taxis operate around the clock (for example, to the airport - 150 euros, around the town - within 10 euros).

The city has a post office, banks (ATMs on every corner), pharmacies, private clinics, offices of mobile operators, locutions, tobacco kiosks, a library, a market, etc.

There are thieves, just like everywhere else. Safe at night. They don't like to argue with the law.

There are no nudists (a fine of 500 euros), the ladies really come across “top-less”, and even of retirement age (there are very few “blue” ones, practically none and mostly local ones.

The contingent of vacationers is different: French, British, Germans, but 70% of Russians .... Closer to September-October, when holidays and tours become more affordable, pensioners from all over Europe come to visit.

Well, to sum up: I have not heard a single bad and disappointed review about this place, only the desire to return again. Because it combines a comfortable cultural beach holiday, and the proximity of many cities, including Barcelona, allows you to diversify your vacation program to the maximum for different tastes.

Welcome to Salou! Discover this sunny city)
