Historical part

The history of Krasnaya Polyana began a long time ago. The place where this small town is now located has always attracted people with its convenient location, mild climate and unique nature. Also in old times along the Mzymta River there was a caravan route, very important for people's lives.

During this time, about twenty fortresses gradually appeared in the vicinity of the village, built by representatives of different nationalities.

The main lands of the valley were inhabited by a people called Adygs. Russian people called them Circassians. Their main occupation was the cultivation of fruit trees, which gave a good harvest in these places with an amazing climate.

Several large families lived a little apart, who extracted honey from wild bees. They were called "medovei". According to the description of contemporaries, they had few livestock, little land, but the fruits they grew were distinguished by their unsurpassed taste and juiciness. And the honey they produced was lighter than usual and had a delicious aroma of mountain flowers.

This product was very popular among the Turks, with whom the locals constantly traded. But not only this was done by the meads. Taking advantage of their inaccessibility to the unprepared inhabitants of the plain, the highlanders sometimes hunted outright robbery.

Life goes on as usual, and events, significant and not so, replace each other. It so happened that it was here, on the land of today's Krasnaya Polyana, that the order was once read to end the long-term Caucasian war, which lasted several decades.

The settlement of Russians founded then in honor of the royal family was called Romanovsk. But for many, accustomed to living on the plain, in the mountains of Krasnaya Polyana at an altitude of 550 meters above sea level, it was difficult to adapt. And after a while the people dispersed, the lands were left empty. This desolation continued for several decades.

Founders - Greeks

And in 1878 Greek settlers came here, looking for the best place for life. Passing along the coast of the mountainous Mzymta, and the name is translated from the Adyghe as “mad”, they saw a valley covered with brown ferns growing here, red cherry leaves and maples covered with scarlet foliage.

The place looked so beautiful in bright red colors that the name arose by itself - Krasnaya Polyana. Having taken a fancy to this beautiful valley, people began to settle down here, but there was no road connecting Krasnaya Polyana with larger cities and it was possible to get to the village only along narrow paths Caucasian ridge.

Only 20 years later, a special commission was created, which recognized these lands as really valuable. natural resources: the purest spring water, fresh mountain air, numerous mineral springs rich in diverse flora and fauna. And here they built a road: the Krasnopolyanskoye highway, connecting the Black Sea coast and Krasnaya Polyana.

At the beginning of the 20th century, there was one small church and several food shops in the village. With the advent of the highway, the town began to grow intensively - hotels, coffee houses, and a post office were built.

On the mountain near the village itself, a hunting lodge was built specifically for the king (we'll talk about this in more detail below). He never came here, but famous people began to buy houses in Krasnaya Polyana. One of the first to buy a house here was Count Sheremetiev. Lived and worked here for a long time famous explorer, botanist Khmelevsky.

The very first Rest House in Krasnaya Polyana was built by a Russian military leader, Colonel Tchaikovsky.

With the advent of Soviet power here, as elsewhere, collective farms spread. They began to breed bees on a large scale and produce honey in the nursery, which still exists. It is part of the Institute of Beekeeping under Russian Academy Sciences.

Naturally, the name Romanovsk did not take root, and the village was officially returned to its original name.

It was a typical renaming procedure in those days. Many cities have changed their historical names. So, for example, beautiful and ancient city Romanov-Borisoglebsk, located in, began to be called simply.

The village continued to develop, but very slowly. And during the years of the Great Patriotic War this process has completely stopped.

The Germans were intensively breaking through to the Black Sea, so on mountain passes there were fierce battles. Thanks to the feat of the Russian soldiers, the Nazis' plans to reach the Black Sea coast did not materialize. The war ended and the country began to recover.

From the past to the present

Such a stunning place in all conditions could not remain unrecognized for a long time. In the post-war years, a hydroelectric power station was built in Krasnaya Polyana, general education schools were opened, an art school, a hospital, a clinic, and shops began to operate.

And in 1992, the Alpika-Service company built the first funicular here. Since that time, Krasnaya Polyana began to develop by leaps and bounds as a ski resort.

But, of course, special attention was paid to the improvement of the unique village in the course of preparations for the 2014 Olympic Games. New ski slopes have appeared here, modern cable cars have been built, comfortable ones have been launched, and a wide track has been laid here from Adler Airport.

Krasnaya Polyana has acquired the status of one of the most respectable modern resorts peace.

Today, more than 5,000 people live in Krasnaya Polyana, among them there are representatives of about 20 nationalities.

Yes, there is no sea in Krasnaya Polyana. But it is 40 kilometers from the sea, an hour by car from the strength. But Krasnaya Polyana is a good place for outdoor activities. Tourist and cycling routes, rafting - rafting on the mountain river Mzymta, horseback riding, as well as a heliport and other entertainment during an excursion to Krasnaya Polyana are available to guests of the city.

He organized a trip of school students to the Aishkho pass, where fierce battles took place during the war years. The military exhibits found there became the beginning of the museum collection. Now it consists of 5 halls, which can accommodate 18,000 exhibition items.

The history of the Bronze Soldier monument in Krasnaya Polyana is unusual. At one time, exactly the same monument to a soldier, a war hero who bowed his head in memory of his dead comrades, stood in the center of Tallinn. But the authorities of the Estonian city did not like this, and they decided to remove the reminder of the Russian feat, move the monument to military cemetery where he still is.

But among ordinary Estonians, such a decision of officials caused a storm of negative emotions, accompanied by popular unrest. And in our country, such an act of the Estonian authorities, to put it mildly, did not find positive responses.

Then the Russian banker decided to make a copy of the Bronze Soldier at his own expense and install it in the town of Esto-Sadok, since this is an Estonian settlement in Russia.

The monument was cast in Moscow in a timely manner, but for some reason the original plan changed, and it ended up near school No. 65 in Krasnaya Polyana. Maybe it's for the best. Here is such a story.

Krasnaya Polyana has its own Orthodox church. The church was consecrated in honor of St. Harlampy. It is very harmoniously inscribed in the mountain landscape. So I didn’t manage to take a picture of her in “full growth”. 🙂

A modern castle is also being built. The purpose of this grand building remains a mystery to me. But over time, I hope everything will be revealed.

Monuments of the ancient past

At the end of Achishkhovskaya Street, the attention of the guests of the village is attracted by small structures that look like military pillboxes. These are dolmens. They are already several thousand years old. Who built them and for what - scientists still cannot answer. Approximate coordinates of the place: 43.69895, 40.18506.

Achipsinskaya fortress dates back to the Middle Ages. The walls of Achipse are 290 meters long and 145 meters wide. From the northern part of this structure, the remains of the premises have been preserved.

In 1901, another attraction appeared in Krasnaya Polyana. On the slope of Mount Achishkho, at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level, a hunting lodge was built, designed specifically for Emperor Nicholas II.

The three-story house contained 50 rooms. Nearby were houses for guards, for the huntsman, and all this was surrounded by a protective wall. Before the revolution, the princes of the Romanovs came to the house, but neither Nikolai-2 himself, nor his wife and children had ever been here.

After the revolution, he acquired a new status and became part of the military sanatorium. I. Fabricius. During World War II, the house was converted into a hospital for the wounded. The mountain-sea climate of Krasnaya Polyana, which has special properties, contributed to the rapid healing of wounds and a speedy recovery.

In the postwar years, Joseph Stalin turned his attention to Krasnaya Polyana. He often came to the village, and according to his instructions, a path was laid that connected the house with the building of the Red Army sanatorium.

In 1961, the house and all the sanatorium buildings were converted into the Sports House of the Soviet Army. He began to be part of the camp site of the Ministry of Defense. Nearby was Observation deck, parking for cars, restaurant.

The royal house itself was considered a four-star hotel. Inside it were rooms with crystal vases, chinaware, Persian rugs, and private bathrooms. Grechko and Ustinov, the ministers of defense of the USSR, have been here. And in a nearby restaurant, such "stars" of their time as Pugacheva and Kobzon sang. In general, all signs of elitism.

With the beginning of confusion in the country in the 90s unique monument history many times passed from hand to hand: it belonged to private individuals, and was adapted for playing paintball. At one time, the Ministry of Defense and Elena Baturina, wife of former mayor Moscow.

As a result, it turned out to be abandoned and useless. But, nevertheless, for all this time, the emperor's house did not open its doors to tourists. On the eastern spur of the ridge, among the most beautiful forest glades, there are Khmelev lakes. There are several of them, the most prominent of them are 4. The most great depth lake 2 meters. The lakes got their name in honor of the scientist Khmelevsego, who lived and worked in Krasnaya Polyana for a long time. It is very convenient that a dirt road leads to this place. Semiozerye

One of the most interesting and beautiful places in the vicinity of Krasnaya Polyana is the Lake Valley on the Dzitaku Ridge, the so-called Seven Lakes. Five charming lakes with crystal clear water are located close to each other at an altitude of 1900 meters. The largest lake, as it is called, has an area of ​​​​about 20,000 square meters, its depth is 10 meters.

The seventh lake is unique in that the water from it flows from 2 slopes of the mountain - both from the north and from the south. This is a very rare occurrence! And with all this, Jitaku, with a height of 2819 meters, translated as "waterless hill". So understand what people wanted to say with such a name.

Surrounded by three mountains, at an altitude of 1838 meters above sea level, there is the purest glacial lake Kardyvach. A river flows out of it, one of the tributaries of the Mzymta, which, after about 4 kilometers, forms the Emerald Waterfall.

It will take a whole day to get to Lake Kardyvach from Krasnaya Polyana. But it's worth it - the view here is amazing! This is the lake itself, and a waterfall, and mountains with alpine meadows. But remember, you need a pass here. It can be obtained at 18 Michurina Street in Krasnaya Polyana.

You will also need such a pass if you want to get to Mount Black Pyramid 2375 meters high (coordinates: 43.64306, 40.2674) or Engelman's Glade (coordinates: 43.61813, 40.46406) unique for its flora and 120 mineral springs located there. Currently, it is considered one of the most significant and comfortable stadiums of this kind in the world. Ski and biathlon complex can simultaneously receive 9600 spectators!

The outlook of Efremov or, as this attraction is also called, Mount Monashka is lower than all the other mountains in the vicinity of Krasnaya Polyana. Its height is only 758 meters and it is named so, apparently, because a river with that name flows nearby.

How to get there, where to live

The village is located in the Adler district of the Krasnodar Territory. You can get to Krasnaya Polyana from Sochi and Adler by any transport: by taxi, by your own car, by train "Lastochka" or by buses number 105, 105 s, 135.

I'll start with what they themselves failed at - how many days. For an overview acquaintance, a car traveler will have enough daylight hours, for a deeper one - at least three. Rest in Krasnaya Polyana involves, in my opinion, at least five days. The bigger, the better. One thing is for sure - it's worth the trip! Firstly, it is incredibly beautiful here - mountains, mountain rivers, waterfalls, snow in summer, flowering rhododendrons, intoxicating air. Secondly, it is interesting here - there is something to see, plunge into the atmosphere of a ski resort, see the Olympic fashionable Rosa Khutor and Gorki Gorod, or even explore new, much less well-known natural places and attractions.

On that day, we left until we dropped. By evening, Sophie had already climbed onto her father's neck, or rather, her shoulders, because she could not walk from fatigue. I don't remember how I moved. But, knowing myself, I can assume that I kept only on the inspiration and delight that the mountains of the Caucasus and the healing aura of these places breathed into us.

Krasnaya Polyana made an indelible impression on us. With pleasure and curiosity we looked at Esta-Sadok, Gorki Gorod, walked along the embankment of the Mzymta River in Roza Dolina and the Cultural and Ethnographic Center "My Russia". Beautiful, aesthetic, well-groomed, unusual.

But the main entertainment in Krasnaya Polyana is cable cars and lifts. Most of all, we were shocked, of course, by the mountains and landscapes that can be seen "at arm's length". Even now I can't calmly look at the photos taken on the "Mountain Carousel". About the mountains and, possibly, the center "My Russia" I will make separate posts. Road from Sochi to Krasnaya Polyana

Having looked around the surroundings from the platform near the stele, we drove on.

Krasnaya Polyana... Highway A148 runs through the entire village - Defenders of the Caucasus Street. On both sides of it are numerous hotels, as well as shops, gas stations and more. It is quite convenient, when arriving to Krasnaya Polyana, to stop here, in the village itself. Yes, you have to go to the sights, this place is only suitable for spending the night, but, firstly, it’s not far to go, and, secondly, accommodation here is much cheaper than in Esto-Sadok and its mountain resorts.

Resort Gorki The city is located in the village of Esto-Sadok. He is the first on the way from the village of Krasnaya Polyana to the Rosa Khutor resort. We decided to start watching Krasnaya Polyana from here.

We drive into the territory, we go to the underground parking.

If I'm not confused, we pay 1,100 rubles each. per person to climb to a height of 2375 (the Black Pyramid peak is the highest point of the descent). Thought it would be more expensive. We're going to land. Since I am thinking of making a separate post about Gorki Gorod and, in particular, about cable car riding, I will show everything very briefly here in the report.
"Mountain Carousel" - part of the resort "Gorki Gorod", which is located at different levels: at an altitude of 540 m - "Lower City", 960 m - "Upper City", 1,500 m and 2,200 m - cable cars . 2375 m. - "Black Pyramid" peak. The "Lower" and "Upper" levels are connected by a road and a cable car. There is a serious infrastructure, hotels, restaurants, cafes...

To climb to a height of 2,375 meters, we had to pass five sections of the cable car. Three are in booths, two are in chairs.
First plot. We sit down in the Lower City - a mark of 540 m. We go in a booth. Visibility due to thick scratched glass is not very good. And noticed - all the booths are different. There are also with good glasses, there is an excellent overview.

It’s not just that the snow doesn’t melt here even when it’s hot below. So the freezing rain covered us. Everyone was urgently forced to load onto the cable car. We rode in a closed cabin, and bare feet rain poured down. It was something...

and admire the crazy beauty of the mountains and the Rhododendron Valley.

I tried to absorb all this beauty with every cell, remember, enjoy. The cable car operator showed us mountain goats and goats walking in the mountains, told stories about them.

Well, then the test of beauty and cold ended, and we drove on ...

We walked around Gorki Gorod for a bit. The architecture is unique, of course. But it's curious to see, curious... The atmosphere of the resort has a relaxing effect. Trout and salmon are found in the clean clear waters of rivers and lakes.
How to get to Krasnaya Polyana.

The road itself is a modern highway stretching from Adler for 40 km. Until recently, in some places it narrowed and passed right over the abyss. In August 2005, President Putin solemnly opened the longest (2420 meters) Krasnopolyansky Tunnel in Russia. It stretched from the village of Monastery to the village of Kepsha. The road to Krasnaya Polyana surprises with its views at any time of the year. From Adler it goes along the valley of the Mzymta River, major river Black Sea coast within the Krasnodar Territory. Mzymta originates on the southern slopes of the Main Caucasian Range at an altitude of 1850 meters, flowing from the high mountain lake Kardyvach, which flows into the Black Sea near Adler. Having passed the village "Kazachiy Brod", you will pass the trout farm and the restaurant "Canyon". Akhshtyrskaya cave is located not far from here. After leaving the tunnel 450 meters long, move on. To the right of the road, on the banks of the Mzymta, there are places for recreation and picnics. Here landing and rafting take place. In front of the Monastery village, to the right of the road, you will see an observation deck overlooking the majestic Akhtsu gorge. Downstairs, the tireless Mzymta makes its way noisily. Ahead, the road dives into the new Krasnopolyansky Tunnel, and on the right there is a fork in the old dangerous road, carved into the rock more than a century ago. She passed by picturesque rock"Go ahead, sir." On the right, the gorge breaks down, where noise is heard mountain river, clamped in a vise by rocks. After passing through the tunnel, we get to the village of Kepsha. We pass the apiary. Further, after 5 km we cross the river Chvizhepse. Church of St. Charalambius
In the center of the village in 2003, the restoration of the temple of St. Haralampy, which was destroyed in 1937, was completed. Local old-timers say that one of their residents then kicked so fiercely

Dacha Naumov
The dacha of lawyer Naumov was built in 1902. Some mistakenly call it Stalin's dacha. In fact, he only spent the night here. The cottage is well preserved. It is located on the territory of the center of tourism and recreation "Krasnaya Polyana". In autumn, chestnuts ripen and fall around the house - a real delicacy for those who know a lot about this.

Fishing "Russian yard"
You can get to this charming place by driving along Achishkhovskaya Street from Krasnaya Polyana towards the Achishkho shelter for 2.5 kilometers and passing the bridge over the Beshenka River. It is located on the territory of the reserve, so the passage is paid. Trout, carp, chub are found in the mountain lake. The caught fish will be cooked for you. The trout ear is especially good. Dolmens
Near the village there are several dolmens. Six of them are located in the valley of the Beshenka River, in the vicinity of Krasnaya Polyana. Two of them are tiled, and four are well-shaped, half covered with earth. An interesting feature local dolmens is their diminutiveness. They are smaller than those on the coast, sometimes several times. Local residents and tour instructors will show you the way to them. In Krasnaya Polyana, you need to move to the end of Achishkhovskaya Street and then along the country road to the Beshenka River. Further, without crossing the river, you need to go another 60 meters up against the river until you meet the dolmens. The walk from the village to one end takes about an hour.

Apiary "Mountain Garden"

In addition, Caucasian bees fly out for nectar in fog and light rain, work until dark and are not afraid of lower temperatures than other bees. They open the season earlier and finish later. "Caucasians" collect an average of 12-13 kilograms of honey per family per season. At the apiary, you can taste fragrant mountain honey produced in an ecologically clean region of the Caucasus and purchase first-hand beekeeping products. Somewhere far below the thread of the rivers Mzymta and Laura winds like a snake, the houses of Esto-Sadka are lost and paragliders fly. Clouds float low above you. The impression is that you are in heaven. From June to September, here you can admire the beauty of alpine flowers, which you will not find below, in Krasnaya Polyana. They bloom all summer, replacing each other. But you can't break them. Since almost all of them are listed in the Red Book. In June, the slopes of the mountains are covered with a carpet of rhododendrons, and at the end of August blueberries ripen. The taste is so hard to put down!

SKI COMPLEX "ALPIKA - SERVICE"
Located in the village. Krasnaya Polyana, st. Defenders of the Caucasus, 65.
From Krasnaya Polyana, after 6 kilometers, an excellent highway past the village of Esto - Sadok leads to the Alpika - Service ski resort. All services for outdoor activities are concentrated in the area of ​​the ski lift. These are ski equipment rental, ski and board instructors, ski lift ticket offices and an excursion center. And, of course, cafes, bars, shops, souvenir kiosks. In Krasnaya Polyana, you do not have to pay for the ascent for each line. Passes for the whole day are sold here. And on weekends and holidays, their cost is a little more expensive. To date, 5 stages of the Alpika-Service cableway have been built. And this is not the limit, as the construction of three more mountain-skiing complexes is in full swing: Karusel, Rosa-Khutor and Grand Hotel Polyana of OAO Gazprom. Today, skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts are offered trails of varying complexity ranging from 2300 to 6000 meters with the largest vertical drop in Russia - 1698 meters (from 540 m to 2238 m). The length of the ski slopes is 25 km.
The longest skiing season (from November to May) now lasts on the fourth stage of the 1.6 km long lift. At the top station of the 4th line of the cable car (2238m) there is an observation deck. During the skiing season, the first three stages are prepared daily by snow groomers. The fourth line is the most extreme. There is no rolled track here, which allows you to ride in unlimited space on virgin slopes. When climbing the cable car, a unique view of the age-old forest and mountain peaks sparkling in the sun opens up. What strikes after the noise of the cities is the ringing silence in which you can hear the birds singing and the brook murmuring. The local nature every day gives people the joy of being. At each turn of the cable car, a standard warming set is offered: tea, coffee, mulled wine. You can eat even more seriously.

MOUNTAIN AND TOURIST CENTER "GRAND HOTEL POLYANA"
Located in the village. Esto-Sadok.
Since December 2007, in the vicinity of the village of Esto-sadok, the first stage of the new modern ski complex "Grand Hotel Polyana" has been opened. OAO Gazprom has built six ropeways on the Psekhako Ridge. The technical equipment here is world-class. At an altitude of 1436 meters above sea level, skiers are delivered by a gondola lift. From highest point- Psekhako sites - 5 more cable cars of various types diverge in different directions. Their total length is about 5 km. Three chair lifts and two rope tows will take skiers and snowboarders to slopes of different difficulty levels in a few minutes. For winter skiing you are offered 16 slopes. Among which there are slopes for beginners and ski professionals. In 2010, the second stage of the cable car was launched, which consists of 8 lifts.

PSLUKHSKIE NARZANS
This place is located 6 km from the lift of the ski complex, if you move along the forest road along the left bank of the Mzymta River up against the current. After crossing the river on the bridge, the road continues along the Pslukh River, a tributary of the Mzymta. After 300 m from the confluence of two rivers there is a source of mineral waters. This is a real "people's resort". Indeed, in July and August, up to a hundred people camp here in order to conduct a free course of treatment in the bosom of nature. The water in the springs is carbonated, transparent, slightly reeking of hydrogen sulfide. By its composition, it is a carbonate-carbonate mineral water. For taking baths, it is better to consult a doctor in advance.

MOUNTAIN AIBGA
The mountain rises above Krasnaya Polyana just behind the Mzymta River. mountain range Aibgi consists of four peaks: the Black Pyramid Peak and three unnamed peaks. The most convenient route leads from the village to the middle peak, which starts from the Greek bridge, located near the hydroelectric power station reservoir (at the entrance to Krasnaya Polyana). It is best to start climbing early in the morning in order to have time to return before sunset. The path to the top goes through a beech forest. Crossing the stream, it runs up steeply. After passing through the fir forest, after 4 hours we get to a large clearing. A hundred meters away, the Blue Creek flows. Here you can drink spring water and relax. Then the path again leads through the forest and out into the subalpine meadows. Having passed thickets of tall grass and climbing steeply, we reach the summit ridge. A steep ledge offers a breathtaking view of Krasnaya Polyana and the surrounding mountains. Another hour of walking along the ridge of the mountain - and you are at the top of the middle peak. There is a small platform with a fabulous view in all directions of the world. You are at an altitude of almost 2500 meters above sea level. The third and fourth peaks are more difficult to climb.

LAKE KARDYVACH
fabulously beautiful alpine lake in the upper reaches of the Mzymta River is located at an altitude of 1850 meters above sea level, 44 km from Krasnaya Polyana. The lake is located on the territory of the reserve, and you can get here only as part of a special tour, on foot or by helicopter from Krasnaya Polyana. Kardyvach is especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset.
On three sides, the lake is surrounded by mountains over 2000 meters high. In shape, it is an ellipse 500 meters long and more than 300 meters wide. The depth of the lake is about 17 meters. Even in summer, the water in it does not warm up above 12 *. From here, the Mzymta River originates, more like a stream. Flowing out of their lakes, the river soon overthrows the 15-meter Emerald waterfall. There are no fish in the lake, since the waterfall is an insurmountable obstacle for it, and in winter the lake is covered with a layer of ice and snow. On south coast The Hospitable Glade is located, covered in summer with an amazing carpet of flowers. Currants, blackberries, blueberries, bird cherry, and various mushrooms grow around the lake. In total, about 1000 different plants grow in the zone of alpine meadows, where the lake is located. From the animal world here you can meet the chamois and the mountain goat - the tour. More experienced tourists can climb the Upper Kardyvach Lake at an altitude of 2470 meters.

KHMELEVSKIE LAKES
The lakes are named after the botanist Khmelevsky, who lived and worked here at the beginning of the twentieth century. You can only get here by SUV, which can be rented with a driver in the parking lot near the ski lift. Having arrived in Krasnaya Polyana to the fork in the road near the gas station, we turn left towards the tourism center of Krasnaya Polyana. We drive another 1 km along the highway to a sharp turn and turn onto a dirt road. The forest road goes up the hill. To your left flows the stream Melnichny. After 12 km of a steep ascent, we drive up to Khmelevsky Lake. Here, at an altitude of 1750 meters, you will be amazed by the beauty of virgin nature and the intoxicating mountain air. The shape of the lake resembles a pear, its length is about 200 meters, width -100 meters. You can come here for the whole day to swim in the lake, sunbathe and have a picnic.

RIDGE ACHISHO
This journey will take a whole day. It's better to go with an instructor, those who know the route. On the ridge you can go through Lake Khmelevsky, or you can take another road - from the center of Krasnaya Polyana, along Zapovednaya Street. The forest road goes up the river Beshenka. Past two dolmens, to the Achishkho shelter of the Krasnaya Polyana tourism and recreation center. After 10 km Mountain road leads to the Round Glade, covered in summer with a carpet of flowers. From here, from a height of 1450 meters, a breathtaking panorama of the mountains and Krasnaya Polyana opens far below. Then the path leads through the Beech forest to the crest of the Achishkho ridge. At an altitude of about 1900 meters there is a small platform from where the surrounding snowy peaks, the valley of the Mzymta River and the village of KRASNAYA Polyana are perfectly visible. Not far below small lake Mirror at an altitude of about 1880 meters. The Achishkho Ridge is the wettest place in Russia. The depth of snow in winter sometimes reaches 7.5 meters. It happens that on Achishkho the weather changes 5-6 times a day. You can go back through the waterfalls at the headwaters of the Achipse River and Lake Khmelevsky. If you're lucky, in the summer at an altitude of over 2000 meters you can play snowballs.

ENGELMANOVA POLYANA
Located 30 km from Krasnaya Polyana upstream of the Mzymta, there are more than 120 springs along both banks. This is the famous Engelman's Glade. Here the water gushes out of the ground in gurgling streams. In one place there is even a small lake, from the bottom of which bubbling streams of mineral water rise.
