Restaurant Rybnyak

The road to the Rybnyak restaurant

Walking route 6 km on an asphalt road to the mountains above Budva. We reach the Podostrog monastery, and then we go up the road. Cars rarely go there, so it's comfortable to go. You can go on foot or by car.

I went after dinner when the heat subsided. I didn’t reach Rybnyak, but I looked at Budva from a height, walked through the mountains, reached the cemetery and the church. The views there are beautiful, the mountains are cool, there are many flowers and destroyed houses. The air is fresh and fragrant.

In Rybnyak there is a restaurant, a zip-line, a swimming pool with sun loungers, a small waterfall (they swim there in summer).

Mount Chelobrdo

From here open the best views to the Budva Riviera and the island of St. Stephen. On the way from Przno to the village of Sveti Stefan there is a congress to a small monastery Praskvitsa(Praskvica).

From Praskavice Monastery there is an old stone road Yegor Stroganov to Mount Chelobrdo. The monk built this road alone for ten years.

If you don’t want to walk from the monastery to the observation deck, you can get there by car. When you leave the highway Pržno-Sveti Stefan, there will be a fork. To the right - to the monastery, straight ahead - to the mountain with panoramic views. You need to drive just a couple of kilometers to the monument to the heroes of the war from the village of Chelobrdo and a source of sweet water.

From the mountain we look at the sea, here you can see the sunset. In Budva, you can’t see how the sun dives into the sea, but from Mount Chelobrdo you can see perfectly.

If you get to Budva, be sure to visit Old city And . These are the most beautiful corners cities.

Sights of Budva

Most of Budva is new buildings. There are often buildings five or more stories high. For Montenegro, this is not typical. Firstly, almost all houses in the country are old stone, and secondly, Montenegrins usually build two- or three-story villas. Nevertheless, there are many interesting sights in Budva, including historical ones.

Old city

The main attraction of Budva is its Old Town. The most beautiful corners of the city and most of its attractions are concentrated here. You will be able to see a massive fortress wall surrounding low stone buildings. The interweaving of narrow winding streets, stone pavement and medieval coloring made us incredibly delighted. It is scary to think that in 1979, after a powerful earthquake, all this was destroyed almost to the ground. And then it was restored by the painstaking work of the industrious Montenegrin people.

Most beautiful view on Old city Budva opens from the fortress walls of the citadel located here:

Churches in the Old City:

1 Church of Saint John- marvelous beautiful temple V gothic style. Finding the church is not difficult. You can easily recognize it by the bell tower that towers over the city. This catholic church in the 7th century (this is the 600s) and then rebuilt several times. Stored here Budva Mother of God- an icon painted by the Most Holy Luke and considered miraculous. She is revered by both Catholics and Orthodox. The church is also famous for its library and archives and is considered visiting card of the city.

2 Church of St. Mary "in Punta" very small and unremarkable at first glance, built in 840. Previously, there was a rather large Benedictine monastery in Budva, but only a small church has survived. If during the walk you see that the doors to the church are open, do not hesitate to come in. Unfortunately, most often this church is locked and it is impossible to enter it.

3 Church of the Holy Trinity- This is an Orthodox church, built in 1804 at the numerous requests of believers. It is distinguished by the typical Byzantine style and monumentality of the building.

Saint Nicholas Island

Saint Nicholas Island gets its name from a 16th-century church. Apart from it, there are no other buildings here - the island is completely uninhabited. Locals often call it Hawaii. Getting there is very simple: just take one of the boats that regularly run between Budva and the island. Such a pleasure costs about 5 euros in both directions.

By the way, readers of our blog and traveled to the island.

We invite you to admire the beaches on the island of St. Nicholas in the form of a three-dimensional panorama that can be rotated in all directions:

Mogren beaches (or rather the road to them)

One of the most beautiful beaches in the area. The road to the beaches from the Old Town will be especially pleasant. Just imagine: on the left there is a low cliff, on which they crash sea waves, and rocks overhang to the right. To get to the beach you have to walk along a narrow path and even overcome a tiny grotto. All the way will be open amazing views to the Old Town and the island of St. Nicholas.

Beaches in Budva

There are three beaches directly in Budva:, and. On many sites you will find a description of Budva with a huge number of different beaches, but remember that you have to get on or . In our opinion, this is not always justified.

Slavic beach (Slovenska Plaza)

This is one of the largest and most spacious beaches in Budva. It has everything you might need: comfortable sunbeds (there were 10 euros each), changing cabins, a shower, WiFi (for an extra charge). There are a lot of restaurants, cafes, fast food and souvenir shops on the embankment. The beach itself is completely sandy and quite comfortable. The only negative is that there are usually a little more tourists here than free space. Of course, there are enough places on sunbeds, but vacationers with towels have to make room. So if you, like us, prefer to save a little on sunbeds (we sunbathed on towels), and instead visit a couple, you will have to come to the beach early. Although if you rested in Sudak, then you are no strangers. The number of tourists here is comparable rather with the New World (maybe a little more).

In the panorama shown here, the elite part. In reality, the sunbeds here are simpler and there are more tourists.

Mogren beaches

Very comfortable, albeit expensive. The sunbeds are straight here twice as expensive than on (for 20 euros), exactly the same with drinks and food. But this is more than offset by the amazing beauty of the place, and especially the roads to the beaches. The bottom of the beach is quite gentle, suitable for children. The water here is warmer and cleaner.

Beach near the Old Town of Budva

The smallest beach in Budva. In essence, it is not much different from. Well, except perhaps because the nearest souvenir shops and cafes are located in the Old Town. Almost half of the beach is separated for vacationers from nearby hotels. Instead of standard plastic sunbeds, wooden ones are installed there, umbrellas are also better. But the prices are several times higher. In general, in Budva You can find holidays for every budget.

Excursions from Budva

Budva is considered the most tourist city Montenegro, and therefore the most is offered here. We opted for Decided not to overload this article with photos, so if you are interested in the tour, just open it in a new window.

Bay of Kotor

One of the simplest and short excursions. In the morning we left by bus and almost immediately transferred to a small boat. We visited a church located on a man-made island. The church has very interesting museum. Departing from the island, we admired the monastery on the island of St. George, which is very connected. The next stop was in the town of millionaires. Having sailed enough on the boat, we finally said goodbye to him on the pier - one of the most beautiful medieval cities Montenegro, famous for its fortress walls (the second after the Great Wall of China).

Canyons of Tara and Moraca

I believe that this is the most beautiful and important excursion in Montenegro. It is also the most difficult - it will take about 14 hours to go. During the excursion we visited, drove along, made a short stop on and visited the national one. All the way we were accompanied by really amazing and picturesque landscapes. In general, I simply do not have words to describe the beauty we saw.

Monastery tour

I think that every sincere believer should visit this tour. We managed to visit monasteries and.

Journey Herceg Nova Bay

This is the most pleasant and calm of the excursions we have visited, which took place almost entirely on a small boat. The guides did not overload tourists with information, and there was practically no need to walk. We had breakfast right on the boat, and then visited the city, which is considered botanical garden Montenegro - . Then we jumped from the ship to two small boats right on the open sea. How experienced tourists, we immediately went to the bow, hung our legs overboard and enjoyed the ship's rolling and sea spray flying in the face. When we were taken to, we were soaked to the skin and were almost on the verge of euphoria. The tour continued with a visit to the previously closed presidential beach -. After that, we rode for a long time, we had lunch right on the boat and even swam in the open sea. In general, a lot of positive impressions.

Individual excursions in Montenegro from Budva

It is far from convenient and comfortable for everyone to get up early in the morning, ride huge tourist buses, visit standard excursions with somewhere in a hurry guides and wait for fellow travelers who are always late.

If opportunities allow, you can take a closer look at local residents or our compatriots who moved to Montenegro long ago. It sometimes costs more, but the level of comfort is much higher: a car instead of a bus, a guide that adapts to your wishes, a flexible excursion program.

Of the huge number of sites that promise excursions from Budva, I would like to highlight three:

  • We highly recommend this resource. Here are the most low prices and a very large selection of excursions in Montenegro. Before buying, you can discuss the details with the guide, get advice and make adjustments to the route. Since most of the excursions here are private, people work not only for money, but also for a good image.
  • – excursions here are a little more expensive, but there are very unusual and interesting options, which you can’t buy in an agency and you can’t organize yourself.
  • - here excursions look more expensive, but this is because

The Budva Riviera is 25 kilometers of the Adriatic coast, like a thread, on which 17 beautiful sandy beaches are strung like pearls. It starts in the north from the Jaz beach, which is considered to be the most beautiful beach in Budva. It stretches with a long curved tongue along the sea, which is crystal clear and has its own specific "Mediterranean" color.

Yaz is divided into two unequal parts - a large one, 700 m long, and a small one, 400 m long (nudists prefer to sunbathe there), and is crossed by the Drenovstitsa River, which flows into the sea. Near the river it is sandy, and thanks to the sandy bottom, the water here has a very special, indescribable delightful blue hue. Closer to the city of Budva, the beach becomes covered with small pebbles.

IN last years once a year concerts of world stars such as Lenny Kravitz and Madonna are organized on Yaz. The beach is surrounded by luxurious Mediterranean greenery, giving you the opportunity to hide in the shade during the midday heat. Nearby there is a guarded parking and car camping for 2000 cars. In summer, buses run between Budva and Jaz beach every 2-3 hours.

Becici beach

Becici is a coastal tourist resort Montenegro, located in a park green area behind the famous Becici beach, near historic city Budva on Adriatic coast Montenegro. Its location, climate, wonderful sandy beaches, developed infrastructure and, of course, stunning natural and man-made beauty of this place make it ideal for families.

Becici belongs to the Blue Flag category (this is the symbol of the European Ecological Association). In the immediate vicinity are the cleanest and beautiful beaches- Mogren, Milocer, Przno, Kamenovo, which are less than an hour away by car. In Becici, at every step you come across a variety of cafes, restaurants, bars, and for lovers of nightlife - nightclubs. During the season, it is sometimes impossible to find a place to sit down, because cafes and bars are always crowded.

The nearby ancient fortified city of Budva, breathing with antiquity, with its medieval narrow streets, squares, towers ... improvised concert venues, gives a very special charm to the resort.

Here, just 2 km from Becici, there is a huge number of different entertainment venues. You can spend time in Dolce Farniente on one of the exquisite outdoor terraces, or you can - in sports or in unbridled fun - everyone will find something for themselves here. Old town of Budva

The city of Budva was created by the Phoenicians. Exiled for unknown sins from their native lands, Kadmos and his wife Harmonia, according to legend, became the founders of the Emirion Butua (Budva), and from here begins the long life and difficult fate of the city. The rulers of the city changed - the Greeks, the Venetians, the Slavs ruled it - and they all left their own unique mark on the culture of this unique place.

The city is literally stuffed with cultural monuments, mainly, of course, religious culture. The churches of the Holy Trinity, St. John, the Holy Mother of God and St. Sava, the monasteries of Stanevichi and Podostrog... it would seem that the old town should be a solemnly strict place... But summer is coming, and the streets and squares are magic ... they turn into stages on which visiting troupes give performances, the city is filled with music - there are music festivals, and in a magnificent interior Church of Santa Marina de Punte sounds like a classic... A main square turns into a square of poets...

IN ancient citadel located in the very high point old Budva, the Grand Theater Festival is taking place ... but if you are not a fan of classics and poetry, just take a walk along these pavements, imprisoned between stone walls, you will be surprised to see Pushkin's familiar profile on one of them - this is the name of one of the many cafe in the old town. There are many such small cafes in the city, as well as boutiques and various galleries.

Saint Nikola Island is the largest, utterly charming real uninhabited island in the southern part of Adriatic Sea, located a kilometer from Budva by sea. The island closes the entrance to the Budva Bay, the length of the island is two kilometers, the maximum height is 121 meters above sea level.

The fact that people used to live here is evidenced by the Church of St. Nicholas, first mentioned in the 16th century, and named after this holy skeleton. The church is surrounded by old graves, in which, according to legend, the crusaders who died from the plague that raged in Budva, where they camped, are buried.

The island is very green, the bulk of the vegetation is evergreens. There are many birds in these thickets, but in addition to them, you can meet various small animals and even mouflons on the island. The island is connected to the Slavic beach by a shallow path, which, of course, is associated with a legend. When Saint Sava was about to sail from Budva to Athos, a storm broke out, and in order to get to his galley, he threw a handful of stones into the sea. Thus, a shallow path was formed, along which the saint was able to approach the galley, climb on it and sail away from Budva.

The beach on the island of St. Nicholas actually consists of three of them, the total length of which is more than 800 m. Coastline the islands are heavily indented, and if someone wants to retire, then at his disposal there are many small bays where nirvana will be provided.

You can only get to the island by water, using a water taxi that runs between the island and the beaches of Budva. The cost of such a trip ranges from 2 to 5 euros per person, depending on the season. Small cafes and bars will not let you die of hunger on the island of St. Nikola, there is also a fish restaurant, where guests will be served delicious freshly caught fish piping hot.

There are 170 seats available inside it, which are most often all occupied at once, so you need to reserve a table in advance. The open terrace is decorated with fishing nets, crab traps, ship ropes. There is parking in front of the restaurant.

The establishment is open from 9 am to 2 am. You can pay for food either in cash or with Visa and Maestro credit cards.

The bell tower towering above the rest of the buildings, the chime of which can be heard even in the New Town, was completed even later, in the 19th century.

Literally a few meters away Orthodox Church Holy Trinity, Byzantine style. It was erected in 1804; the iconostasis created by a Greek icon painter is noteworthy.

  • Do not miss:

On the other side of the square stands the Church of St. Mary "in punta" (on the cape), its construction took place in the 9th century. Unique religious artifacts are stored here, and inside the building is decorated with paintings and ancient frescoes. Unfortunately, this temple is not currently active, as is the nearby Church of St. Sava, built in 1141. All these shrines were built in different time and in different styles, however, they give the impression of a harmonious architectural ensemble.

Museum and Citadel

For those interested in history, a must see Archaeological Museum in the Old City. It has collected more than 3 thousand exhibits, aged from 2500 to 300 years, which can tell a lot about the history of Budva and Montenegro.

By the way, the excavations continue, and each time they find new evidence of a rich historical past. Recently, the ruins of a Roman and Greek necropolis with ceramics and precious jewelry have been discovered. The discovery has become one of the most significant archaeological events in Europe in recent years.

One of the main attractions of Budva - Citadel, which repeatedly defended the city from invaders. The first fortifications were erected in the 10th century. For my thousand years of history the building was repeatedly destroyed almost to the ground, but each time it was rebuilt. The citadel in its present form was built at the beginning of the 19th century.

From the walls of the fortress offers a wonderful view. Here you can spend hours looking at Budva spread out below and into the endless sea distance. A few kilometers away you can see the island of St. Nicholas, it is also called the local Hawaii, and a little further you can see the silhouette of a luxurious, important landmark of Montenegro.

Entrance to the fortress is paid, 2 euros, the price includes a visit maritime museum and libraries with old books about the Balkans, in different languages.

The main legend of Budva

On the bas-relief of the Citadel, you can see two fish holding each other by the tail. This is not just a stone tablet, it is a symbol of Budva. An urban legend tells a touching love story between the poor stonemason Marco and the beautiful Elena, from a noble family.

Elena's parents were against their union, and then the lovers jumped into the sea from a cliff, holding hands. Barely touching the water, the couple turned into two fish, and one of the witnesses of this miracle said: “ Ko jedno nek budu dva", which literally translated from Montenegrin means" Let two be as one».

According to the same legend, the name of the city came from the last two words ( budu dva - Budva). Later, a stone slab was found in Marco's house, on which two intertwined fish were carved. The image was immured into the wall of the city's Citadel, and since then, according to legend, everyone who touches it will make their love strong as a stone.

New town

There is something to see in modern Budva. Literally a couple of tens of meters from the walls of the Old City, the embankment begins with a pier, along which moored with the flags of many countries. In the evenings, the picture is transformed, beautiful lights are turned on, and fishermen who return from the sea and take out their daily catch add local color.

Between Stari Grad and Mogren Beach is another attraction of Budva: a bronze sculpture of a dancer, or a ballerina, as she is more commonly called. A tragic legend is also associated with her, this time about the bride of a sailor who once did not return from a long voyage.

The girl came ashore every day and peered into the distance, hoping to see the ship of her beloved on the horizon, but he still did not return. Months passed, then years, and one day the dancer, who had been faithful to her betrothed all this time, died on the shore from longing. The sculpture is considered one of the symbols of Budva, as well as a symbol of love and devotion. Many make wishes near her.

In general, the lack of historical sights in New Budva is more than compensated by the presence of a large selection of various recreational areas. In the modern part there are hotels, entertainment and shopping centers, restaurants and cafes.

An ideal place for a family pastime is an amusement park with a wide range of attractions, swimming pools and water slides. Night club " Trocadero» will appeal to fans of energetic dances and costume parties. One of the most popular discos in the city is located on the Slavic beach. The music here does not stop until dawn.

Vicinities of Budva

Among the attractions in the vicinity of Budva, it is worth highlighting the current monastery Podmaine, built in the 15th century. The temple is located in picturesque place, on a hill, within walking distance of the Old Town.

In general, the highlight of the Budva Riviera, in fact, is precisely the abundance of ancient churches and monasteries, shrouded in a halo of historical mystery and surrounded by marvelous landscapes. Montenegro is known as a country rich in temples, they are scattered throughout the territory. Only along the coast in the vicinity of Budva there are eight of them, from the thirteenth to the eighteenth century.

An equally important historical landmark of Budva is the Mogren Castle surrounded by high stone walls, or rather, what is left of it. From its observation decks opens beautiful view to the city. True, getting to it is not very convenient. Mogren Beach is located near the castle, along which you can find many souvenir shops and restaurants.
